The primary goal of the Reprographics team is to produce the output you want, looking just the way you expect. But unexpected things can interfere with the process, causing undesired complications. These can include color shifting, type substitution, low resolution graphics or incorrect output size. By following the suggestions listed on this page and discussing your project with an output specialist at Reprographics, you can expect the correct file output the first time, without the additional charges that file manipulation will create.
  1. Start by checking the list of applications we currently support for creating output. If your application isn't on this list, you might consider creating an Adobe PDF file.
  2. Be sure to include all fonts with your file. If at all possible, Postscript fonts should be used instead of True Type. Be sure to include both screen and printer font files.
  3. If you have linked EPS files in your document, verify that all fonts in those files have been converted to outlines or that you have included those fonts as well.
  4. If there are linked files in your application (especially Pagemaker, InDesign, Illustrator and Quark), you must include the linked files with the material you submit.
  5. If we are outputting your file on our large-format color printers or color copier, make sure your file is in CMYK format, not RGB.
  6. If at all possible, include a laser or ink jet 'proof' of your project. We will use this to make sure our output contains all the same information as you expect.
  7. We can accept files on Zip disks, CD-Rom, Floppy Disk or via our FTP site. Make sure to mark each disk or file with your name and phone number. Include a list of files on the disk when at all possible.

  1. If we are scanning photos or artwork to include in your document, make sure that the location for the scan is clearly marked on your proof. If you need to crop or resize the photo or artwork, we can provide the high-resolution scan for you to place into your document.
  2. Whenever possible, resize graphics in an graphics application instead of your page layout program. You'll have more consistent output.
  3. It does no good to scan photos at a higher resolution than necessary for output (except for line art). The additional file size only slows down the output, and time is money.
  4. Provide graphics in TIFF or EPS format for the best quality reproduction. BMP, PCX, GIF, JPEG, PICT and Metafiles may not contain enough data for quality reproduction.
  5. Avoid light screens and hairlines. All screens should be 10% or greater and at least .25 point. Objects not meeting these guidelines may not print correctly or fail to print at all.
